Neutral Milk Hotel have launched an online auction selling off anything from the broken guitar headstock of Fugazi member Guy Picciotto to signed posters in order to help raise funds for Geneviève Castrée, a Washington State musician diagnosed with inoperable, stage four pancreatic cancer.
Castrée, who is married to Mount Eerie/Microphones member Phil Elverum, was diagnosed with cancer last year, just four months after giving birth to her and Elverum's daughter. Earlier this year, Elverum reached out via a GoFundMe campaign asking for funds to help pay for ongoing cancer treatments.
"Life is 100% occupied by this humongous medical battle (plus the already overwhelming reality of raising a baby with less than 2 fully available parents)," Elverum wrote at the time. "We don't know what the future holds and how long this uncertainty will last. In any case, the amount we've spent over the last year alone has left us in a precarious financial position as a family."
Now, Neutral Milk Hotel are hoping to raise funds for the family by selling off some interesting indie rock memorabilia. This includes a Neutral Milk Hotel box set signed by Jeff Mangum, as well as a pair of signed 7-inch singles and an autographed Elephant 6 catalogue.
The eBay auction also offers up the broken headstock of Picciotto's old, 1981 Gibson SG. An authenticated note from the musician explains that he smashed the guitar during a 1985 performance with his punk group Rites of Spring. The concert took place at Washington, DC's Columbia University, and also included performances from Beefeater and Bad Brains frontman H.R. The highest bid is currently $1,025 USD.
The auction site also features a signed Fugazi test press, an old show poster autographed by the band, and signed acetate copies of Bikini Kill's Revolution Girl Style Now. You can find our more about the individual items over here.
Castrée was born in Quebec, and has performed under the names Woelv and Ô Paon. Over the years, she's issued recordings through K Records and P.W. Elverum & Sun, and most recently self-released Ô Paon's Fleuve in 2015.
