Published Mar 06, 2013Super Furry Animals main man Gruff Rhys recently revealed he got back together with beat-minded collaborator Boom Bip as Neon Neon to record Praxis Makes Perfect, the sophomore follow-up to their 2008 debut Stainless Style. While you'll have to wait until April 30 for Lex Records to release the LP, you can sample new tune "Mid Century Modern Nightmare" now.
The politically minded track delivers an early '80s electro-pop bounce, as steady synth-bass melodies, sci-fi keyboards and Speak & Spell drum machines whir throughout the arrangement. Rhys' timid but tuneful vocals critique the bourgeoisie and call for the people's liberations, while guest Asia Argento (yes that Asia Argento) reads out a call-to-arms originally broadcast by Italian left-wing political activist/book publisher Giangiacomo Feltrinelli in the 1970s.
"It's a protest against the stylistic mid-20th century cultural stranglehold that continues to clog up our pop culture and strangle our forward-minded spirits to this day," Rhys told the Guardian of the track, which you can stream down below.
