Wilco's Nels Cline Collaborates with My Cat Is an Alien on 'The Ocean Above Your Heads'
Outside of his duties in alt-country favourites Wilco, guitarist Nels Cline keeps himself busy with avant-garde experiments. Up next from the experimental artist is a full-length collaboration with Italian outfit My Cat Is an Alien called The Ocean Above Your Heads.

A press release explains that the LP, which Starlight Furniture Company delivers September 3, has been a long time coming. The idea apparently germinated as far back as 2007 when the artists ran into each other on the European festival circuit, which led Cline to send the band a CD-R of guitar improvisations.

My Cat Is an Alien members Maurizio and Roberto Opalio were given carte blanche with the material, and eventually added their own music during a 2012 recording session at the Alien Zone studio in the Western Alps. The pair apparently kept the improvisational spirit alive by holding off on listening to Cline's work until they hit the studio. Their part of the LP was recorded in real time along with the CD-R, with the sessions skipping out on overdubs.

Though sound clips have yet to arrive, the guitar-and-loops-utilizing results apparently play out like the Goblin-styled soundscapes heard on Dario Argento movies, while also bringing to mind "golden age of industrial."

The album will arrive via Starlight Furniture Co. as a limited-edition LP, of which 300 will be pressed.
