Neko Case

"Number of the Beast" (Iron Maiden cover)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished May 23, 2013

While we're used to more countrified sounds out of Neko Case, a recent live cover of Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast" suggests she might want to raise those horns high on her next LP.

The tribute took place during a performance at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, MN, for Minnesota Public Radio, following comedy sketches and songs performed by the likes of Rob Delaney, Kelly Hogan and Case. The singer almost outdoes Bruce Dickinson's air-horn scream on the familiar intro with her own death-defying wail. Extra touches on the 666-saluting song include a raging solo on slippery pedal steel and some choice double-tapping fretwork on a standard six-string.

You can sample the song at the end of the broadcast over here. Just fast forward to about the 55-minute mark.

Big thanks to TwentyFourBit for the tip.
