Neil Young's Archives Delayed To 2009

If you’ve been holding your breath for Neil Young’s Archives, well, you’re probably dead by now. The eight-CD, double-DVD behemoth was originally supposed to hit way back in 2007 and then was pushed back to this fall. Well, guess what, it’s been delayed again.

According to several news reports (such as this one by the Neil Young blog Bad News Beat), the set has been once again held up due to production issues and likely won’t see the light of day until early next year. The original press release touted Archives as an interactive and chronological overview of Young’s career, featuring "music, movies, videos, personal archives, memorabilia, photographs, letters, handwritten manuscripts, and more." Young is working with Sun Microsystems and Reprise/Warner on this release, which is to cover his work form 1963-1972 in the first volume.

However, to cheer you up a bit, Bad News Beat reports that Sugar Mountain, "a 22-track set recorded in November 1968 in Ann Arbor, Michigan," will supposedly be released November 28. No word, though, if Young plans to stick to this date.

To see the Archives, you can view this Reprise microsite, which funnily enough still says "coming in 2007.”
