Neil Young toured in support of his 1988 album This Note's for You the year it came out, and although he recorded each show, the footage has never been available — until now.
Compiled into a collection titled Bluenote Café, the two-CD, four-LP set will arrive on November 13 via Reprise, as part of the artist's Performance Series for his archives.
It features favourites from this "funky and heartfelt" period of Young's career, as well as previously unreleased tracks like "Soul of a Woman," "Bad News Comes to Town," "Ain't It the Truth," "I'm Goin,'" "Crime of the Heart," "Doghouse," "Fool for Your Love" and a 19-minute long rendition of "Tonight's the Night."
The forthcoming release is named after the Winnipeg joint pictured on the aforementioned album's cover (where Young was known to play while he was in town), though the recording captures audio from venues across North America, including a stint at the CNE in Toronto.
Young's backing band for the 1988 tour, dubbed the Bluenote Café, featured Rick Rosas (bass), Chad Cromwell (drums), Frank Sampedro (keyboards), Steve Lawrence (lead tenor saxophone), Ben Keith (alto saxophone), Larry Cragg (baritone saxophone), Claude Cailliet (trombone), Tom Bray (trumpet), John Fumo (trumpet), Billy Talbot (Bass) and Ralph Molina (drums).
