Published Sep 27, 2011For the last 25 years, Neil Young and his wife Pegi have been putting on benefit concerts for the Bridge School, a California-based school set up by co-founder Pegi to help people with severe speech and physical impairments. The annual shows have seen a number of beloved rockers lay down for the cause, from David Bowie to Thom Yorke to Fleet Foxes, and a new compilation will celebrate the best of these performances.
The Bridge School Concerts 25th Anniversary Edition will be released October 24 on Warner Bros./Reprise Records as a two-CD, three-DVD package. Other artists appearing include, naturally, Young, Bob Dylan, Sonic Youth, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, R.E.M., Metallica, Band of Horses, Devandra Banhart, Brian Wilson and Patti Smith, to name but a few.
Along with the many concert performances, the DVD also includes a behind-the-scenes documentary about the concert series. You can check the massive tracklisting here.
All sales proceeds from the project will go directly to the Bridge School.
While the package celebrates the past, the Bridge School Concert Series continues this year on October 22 and 23 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA. Guests set to appear at this year's edition include Arcade Fire, Beck, Jenny Lewis, Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighters and Young himself.
Young had previously issued Bridge School Concert Vol. 1 in 1997.
