Published May 22, 2015As previously reported, rocker Neil Young has set his activist sites on Monsanto for a new concept album about genetically modified food. Before it arrives in full, we get our first taste with the song "Rock Starbucks."
In case you hadn't figured it out, Young has a piping hot, venti-sized hate on for the ubiquitous coffee chain. Without using metaphors, he sings an on-the-nose anthem about how much he dislikes the java vendors for their alleged use of GMOs. The song itself is a fairly straight forward rock song that plods along at a mid-tempo pace. Surely it could use a jolt of caffeine, and maybe some mass-produced pastries.
The video premiered on Democracy Now, and it sees Neil and his bandmates throwing around some paper Starbucks cups. Check it out below.
The Monsanto Years will arrive on June 16 via Reprise. It will not be sold in Starbucks.
