Need

The Need Is Dead

BY Matt MernaghPublished Mar 1, 2000

The perplexing complexity that the Need bring to their wonderfully eccentric sound can drive you crazy trying to explain it. Simply put, they are a mind fuck from a fourth dimension, the Twilight Zone, Grant Morrison's Invisibles comic or Twin Peaks, and possibly the combination of all of them. They are the acid you never took, the flashback that never happened, the sickness of knowing you aren't in Kansas any more. To do this, Radio and Rachel use warped time signatures and soft, "putting a curse on you" vocals to create a delightfully mysterious aura. Their twisted ambience knows no boundaries. Those seeking adventure, excitement and definitely something different should plan a day trip into the Need's realm. Once there, you might not want to come back.
