We're getting closer and closer to crowning a victor in the Wacken Metal Battle Canada contest, with regional winners now set to go head-to-head in Toronto to fight for the chance to play the iconic European metal festival this summer.

As previously reported, over a hundred aspiring Canadian metal crews battled it out in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton earlier this spring, with a series of qualifying rounds having ground down the competition to five acts for the national finals.

The metal showcase will be held next Saturday (June 7) at Toronto's Opera House, with the contestants being Vancouver's Neck of the Woods, Calgary's Exit Strategy, Montreal's Mutank, and Toronto acts My Hollow and Burning the Day. The evening will be headlined by guest headliner Skull Fist.

"We are absolutely stoked about the line-up for the Finals," organizer JJ Tartaglia said in a statement. "These bands are the best of the best, and they've proven themselves round after round to earn their place on the final stage. There will be passion, sweat, and glory. Let this be a testament to what Canada has to offer in metal music."

A panel of judges of metal-minded professionals, including Anvil's Robb Reiner and Cradle of Filth's Lindsay Schoolcraft, will make the final decision. The winner will then be sent to Germany to perform at the Wacken Open Air 2014 festival, which runs July 31 to August 2.
