The National Announce New Album, Play Toronto on Spring Tour

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jan 25, 2010

Over the past decade, Brooklyn's the National have been on a steady upward trajectory, with each of their four albums garnering increased acclaim and larger audiences than the one before. Their last full-length, Boxer, was one of the most-loved albums of 2007, meaning that many fans have been eagerly anticipating new material from the group. And the wait is almost over.

The National have announced that they have finished recording their new album, which is due out sometime in May. They are currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on the mix. There's no indication on what the new songs sound like, and the album still doesn't have a title. Still, fans can rest assured that they won't have long to wait before more concrete details emerge.

The band are also plotting a brief spring tour, with three European dates, plus a handful of North American shows. The band have scheduled one Canadian date, at Toronto's Massey Hall on June 8. Starting January 26 at 10 a.m., you can purchase presale tickets at americanmary.com. The password is "BloodBuzz" (the new album title, perhaps?).
