The National

"Demons"

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Apr 8, 2013

Last week, we uncovered a few live performances of some songs that will appear on Brooklyn indie-rock heavies the National's forthcoming Trouble Will Find Me LP, but now we have a taste of the studio set proper via the newly unveiled "Demons." And, boy, are things as bleak as ever.

Drummer Bryan Devendorf lays down a stilted bounce to the proceedings, while the rest of the band deliver some lovely sonic touches. As can be expected, though, it's vocalist Matt Berninger who takes the cake, unraveling a tale of woe in his mournful baritone about fractured interactions with friends, sympathizing with the buzzards and alligators of the city and ultimately battling his many inner demons. As Berninger puts it so glumly, he's going through a bit of "an awkward phase."

As for the visuals, we see an artist recreate the album art as a massive chalk drawing. You can check it out down below.

As previously reported, Trouble Will Find Me arrives on May 21 in North America and a day earlier in Europe via 4AD.
