Nate Mills

'Royal Swag' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 10, 2013

Nate Mills fronts the genre-bending Toronto outfit Run with the Kittens, but he's also had a busy 2013 that has included two solo albums. The latest of these, Royal Swag, is available now.

On Bandcamp, the album is tagged with descriptors including (but not limited to) "electronic," "pop," "rock," "blues" and "grunge," and this ought to give you some idea about the album's freewheeling approach to genre. Songs like "Paid Vacation" and "Life Inside a Chocolate House" manage to mix all of those styles at the same time. The rootsy "The Brutal Alberta Disadvantage," meanwhile, puns on the band name of the Rural Alberta Advantage.

Check out the album below. It follows Mills' prior solo effort Ten Depressing Songs.
