Published Oct 07, 2010Despite the occasional mixtape, it's been a while since we've heard from Nas. Dude knows this too - and he's pissed. An email leaked earlier today (October 7) from God's Son to the heads of label Def Jam questions why his new album, The Lost Tapes Vol. 2, has yet to gain a firm release date.
An XXL report confirms that the rapper did indeed write the message to his bosses, though he didn't intend for it to surface on the Internet. He doesn't care though, as he believes a number of issues need to be addressed.
Despite tweeting last month that the disc, a follow-up to 2002's The Lost Tapes, would surface sometime this holiday season, reportedly on December 14, Def Jam hasn't made anything official on their end. Nas thinks that's pretty unfair, insinuating that label executive ego is what's standing in the way of the album.
In the email, Nas writes, "With all do respect to you all, Nas is NOBODY's slave. This is not the 1800s, respect me and I will respect you," he says. "The #1 problem with DEF JAM is pretty simple and obvious, the executives think they are the stars. You aren'tâ¦. not even close. As a matter of fact, you wish you were, but it didn't work out so you took a desk job. To the consumer, I COME FIRST. Stop trying to deprive them! I have a fan base that dies for my music and a RAP label that doesn't understand RAP. Pretty fucked up situation."
The rapper continues to discuss the alleged ineptness of Def Jam throughout the email, saying he could easily bring out his fans in droves to protest the label's Nas-negligence, but in the end he just wants his record to be released.
"Stop throwing dog shit on a MAGICAL moment," he says.
"I am ready to drop in the 4th quarter. You don't even have shit coming out! Stop being your own worst enemy. Let's get money!"
Def Jam has yet to respond.
