Nas has written plenty about his life and upbringing in New York over the course of his career in rap, but now, the rap icon's story is set to hit television screens in a new show from BET.
Deadline reports that the network has ordered a pilot of Street Dreams, created by Jonathan Levine (Rush) and executive produced by both Nas and himself. Named after his song from 1996's It Was Written, the show will follow Nas's ascent from young man, to drug dealer, to rapper to adult through growing up in the Queensbridge projects.
The publication describes the show as a program about music, family and the trials and tribulations of the rap game. A New York native himself, Levine wrote the script and will also direct the pilot.
While deals are still being finalized, Levine and Nas will work alongside Jamie Patricof and Lynette Howell (The Place Beyond the Pines) of Electric City Entertainment and Nas's manager Anthony Saleh.
