Nailbiter

'Formats' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Sep 24, 2015

Not only does Toronto musician Josh Korody play in bands like Beliefs and WISH, he has been amassing an impressive resume as a producer at his Candle Recording studio. Now, he's adding another feather to his cap by rolling out a new album with a new solo project: Nailbiter, whose album Formats lands tomorrow (September 25) through Hand Drawn Dracula. The entire thing is available to stream now.

While Beliefs and WISH have specialized in guitar-driven shoegaze, Formats is a electronic album made up of industrial darkness, skin-crawling beats, and atmospheric drones akin to Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Volume II. Dark ambience hangs over many of the arrangements, with "Concrete City" sporting a bloopy, fidgety pulse, "Pressure" doused in circuit-fried tension, "Cycle" consisting of horror-movie swells, and "Scrambling" living up to its name with jarringly skittish beats.
