MYTHS

Myths

BY Luca MorellatoPublished Sep 8, 2011

Myths are a true example of something splendid rising from the ashes. The aggressive noise punk of Vancouver, BC's Mutators (led by Lied Hall) manifested itself into the Myths. The group are known for the spectacle of their vibrant live show, which is both an experiment in sound and visuals, but the transition to your home faces some challenges. The noisy extremity of "Deadlights" is dulled by the lack of aesthetic stimuli, and this trend is prevalent a few times throughout. One listen to the 8-bit tribal rhythms of "The Horizon" or climatic "Goldbase" and one could be easily swayed the other way, as the use of voice as percussion creates a hypnotizing vibe. The deliverance and nature of Myths' music is dichotomizing, demanding your attention while pushing you away with the use of unsettling ambience. It's certain that Myths are doing something different, and if their following releases turn out to be as interesting as their debut, many people will be waiting.
