My Morning Jacket's Jim James Prepping "Really Different" Solo Album

In addition to playing in My Morning Jacket and branching out with the Monsters of Folk, songwriter Jim James makes the odd solo appearance, and released a George Harrison tribute EP under the pseudonym Yim Yames back in 2009. Now, James is prepping his first solo full-length.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, he revealed that the collection is already recorded and will most likely come out next February.

"I think people who are fans of My Morning Jacket will obviously recognize some things on there, my voice and stuff like that," James said. "It's got some mellow stuff on there, but it's also got some really different stuff. I'm really proud of it. I think it's got some different soundscapes that I've been into that maybe have been hidden on some Jacket records."

So perhaps the album will feature some of the electronic textures that have popped up on recent MMJ albums.

The record features drumming from one of James's childhood friends, and the singer is hoping to assemble some more buddies to form a touring band. At this point, it's unclear whether the collection will be released as Yim Yames, or if James will put it out under his own (correctly spelled) name.

YimYames.com says that the LP is "coming soon," suggesting that it will come under that moniker.

Until the solo album comes out, James has a busy schedule with My Morning Jacket, who recently announced a tour with Band of Horses.
