My Favorite/Entre Rios Intercontinental Pop Exchange No. 7

Since its inception, Endearing Records’ Intercontinental Pop Exchange series has featured a wealth of pop bands from around the globe, with this most recent instalment focussing on the US and Argentina. New York’s My Favorite have contributed a couple of songs from their recent The Happiest Days Of Our Lives CD, along with a remix of another older song. They still sound as good as they ever did (not unlike ’80s synth pop), but a lot more interesting is the new song "How I Saved My Life,” which is more reminiscent of the Decemberists, right down to its nautical theme. Hailing from Buenos Aires, Entre Rios’ music is the perfect partner for My Favorite, because they sound like their South American cousins. With swirling electronica and breathy female vocals, their five songs are a pleasant enough listen, although they do all sound far too similar. The icing on the cake is the addition of two videos from each band, making this not only good value for money but also show that this series is the perfect way to discover some wonderful new pop songs.
