Muxtape Shut Down By RIAA

Bad news virtual mixtape makers: Muxtape is down. As of late Monday (August 18), the popular virtual mixtape sharing site went offline, leaving users with this message: "Muxtape will be unavailable for a brief period while we sort out a problem with the RIAA."

At this point, it is unclear as to why the website is having issues, since its administrators said on their blog: "No artists or labels have complained. The site is not closed indefinitely. Stay tuned."

However, many Muxtape users have jumped to the conclusion that the RIAA initiated its own investigation and shut down the site regardless of there being no complaints. And since the vast majority of Muxtape users did not own the copyright to the audio files they were sharing, this theory is a very plausible one.

Perhaps it may be time to dust off those old Memorex DBS 90s and get back to mixtaping the old-fashioned way. After all, the covers were better anyway.
