Music PEI is the latest Canadian organization to launch its own COVID-19 initiative, with the East Coast group announcing the Tiny Island Concert series. And best of all, the series will actually help put money back in musicians' pockets.

The online series aims to "offset the financial losses incurred by a community of people whose livelihood and well-being depend directly on gigs, concerts and other public events," Music PEI explains.

The first Tiny Island Concert will take place on Sunday (March 29), when Music PEI will host two island artists, "one established and one emerging, in a twice-weekly online concert, to be streamed live from each artist's respective home."

UPDATE (3/27, 5 p.m. ET): The first Tiny Island Concert will feature Shane Pendergast and Richard Wood on Sunday (March 29). The livestream will start at 8 p.m. Atlantic time, with a 20-minute opening set from Pendergas, followed by a 40-minute set from Wood.

From there, the shows will then take place every Sunday and Thursday starting at 8 p.m. local time, with each featuring two artists and one hour of programming. Best of all for the artists involved, they will be paid for their performance from Music PEI and its funders.

Music PEI states, "Every Tiny Island Concert will be free for the online public although donations will be accepted towards the newly-established Music PEI Crisis Relief Fund. This fund will be distributed to PEI artists and music industry professionals in need."

Details on how to apply to the fund will be released shortly, and you can learn more at the Music PEI website, where you can find submissions guidelines.

"Submissions will remain open and ongoing while funds are available; the selection process for both the established and emerging category will be done by lottery," Music PEI states.

For viewers, they can keep up to date on the Tiny Island Concert Series schedule on the Music PEI Facebook page.
