Between Dave Grohl making a cameo in The Muppets movie, the recent star-studded Muppets tribute album and My Morning Jacket's scrapped Muppets tour, it sure seems as if there has been a lot of Muppets-related music news lately. Now we have the details for the official soundtrack to the new film.
The Muppets will arrive in theatres on November 23 via Disney, and the soundtrack will come out two days earlier, on November 21. As previously reported, Flight of the Conchords funnyman Bret McKenzie scored the film, and he contributes a number of original tunes.
Perhaps the highlight of this new material is "Life's a Happy Song," a duet between film stars Jason Segel and Amy Adams that features guest vocals from Feist and, uh, actor Mickey Rooney. Another notable guest appearance comes on "The Muppet Show Theme," which includes a vocal cameo by Joanna Newsom. There's also a song called "The Whistling Caruso" by Andrew Bird.
As for the other material on the disc, Muppet characters sing covers of Cee Lo Green's "Forget You" (we're guessing "Fuck You" was too foul-mouthed for a kids movie) and Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (which is a very timely cover indeed).
