Mungolian Jet Set

Schlungs

Disco-prog, neo-psychedelic trance, left-field jazz electronica ― the list of possible arbitrary genre labels for Mungolian Jet Set's music can go on and on. While attempting to describe their sound on paper is a relatively futile task, one thing is for certain: their music is damn entertaining. Schlungs immediately blasts into the thematic orchestration of "2010 ― A Space Woodysey," which references the epic theme of 2001: A Space Odyssey in true Mungolian Jet Set style, setting the mood for the remainder of the album. Schlungs boasts myriad layers of Balearic-sounds and production, with plenty of high resonating filters ("Shelton's on a Bender") and fat leads, accompanied by the duo's Journey-esque vocal arrangements, as can be heard on "We Are the Shining." The lighter, '80s-inspired sounds of "Bella Lanay" stand out on the album, with catchy synth runs and choral harmonies that could carry lyrics about the darkest possible subject matter and still make you smile. If Kurt Vonnegut directed a space film, Mungolian Jet Set would be high on his list of potential scorers.
