Mumford & Sons Cancel More North American Dates Due to Bassist Ted Dwane's Brain Surgery

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 14, 2013

Earlier this week, British folkies Mumford & Sons cancelled a few dates after bassist Ted Dwane required emergency surgery due to a blood clot on his brain. They had intended to resume touring in time to headline Bonnaroo on Saturday (June 15), but they have now officially pulled out of the festival as Dwane recovers from the successful surgery.

What's more, the band have cancelled the remainder of their current North American tour, which included shows in Bonner Springs, KS, and Telluride, CO. Their new plan is to resume touring in the UK on June 30.

On the bright side, Dwane seems to be on the mend following his surgery, despite the axed shows. In a blog post, the band wrote, "It is with great joy that we can announce that Ted has been discharged from hospital and is on the road to a full recovery. The surgery went well, and the excellent medical team helping him are very pleased with his progress. He has been nothing short of heroic in how he has handled the whole ordeal, and now it has been medically proved that he does indeed have a brain."

See the band's updated schedule below. Note the upcoming Canadian dates in Montreal and Simcoe, ON.

As for Bonnaroo, it has been confirmed that Jack Johnson will fill in for Mumford & Sons. He said in a statement, "I called my band and asked if they were up for it,. Long story short — they are headed this way. I've got a lot of lyrics and chords to relearn by Saturday night. I was here to play the first Bonnaroo and it is a very special festival to my band. We are excited to hit the stage again."
