Múm Compile Rarities on New 'Early Birds' Compilation

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 7, 2012

Icelandic oddballs Múm haven't released an album since 2009's Sing Along to Songs You Don't Know, and while we still don't know when they plan to drop a new LP of original material, that doesn't mean that the band will be leaving us totally in the lurch. On July 17, they will put out Early Birds via Morr Music, compiling some of their early rarities.

A press release notes that these 15 tracks include "long-lost and extremely rare tracks taken from demo tapes and limited edition vinyl releases," which date back to the years 1998 to 2000. Most of the material is instrumental.

The first half of the album is apparently made up of playful, experimental cuts, while the second half is said to feature quieter, more pleasantly aimless material. The tracks were recorded by founding Múm members Gunnar Örn Tynes and Örvar Þóreyjarson Smárason as they travelled around Europe and made music along the way.
