MS MR Announce Sophomore Album, Share New Video

Synth-pop duo MS MR had already shared a single from their forthcoming sophomore album, and now they've confirmed the details of the new collection. The record is called How Does It Feel, and it will be out on July 17 through Columbia.

The album was recorded in various studios in New York and Los Angeles, including the storied Electric Lady Stories. It was mixed by returning studio collaborator Tom Elmhirst (Adele, Arcade Fire), and a press release describes the results as "12 brand new ecstatic, high-octane songs."

Singer Lizzy Plapinger and producer Max Hershenow co-wrote some of the songs with other musicians, with contributors including Tove Lo ("Pieces"), MNDR ("Tripolar") and live drummer Zach Nicita (several tracks). Writing sessions took place in a small rented room in the Brooklyn neighbourhood of Bushwick. This album is the follow-up to 2013's breakthrough debut Secondhand Rapture.

Below, watch a new video for How Does It Feel's previously released single "Painted." The clip for this soaring electro-pop anthem was directed by Tabitha Denholm.

"We were thrilled to work with Tabitha to bring 'Painted' to life in our new video," MS MR said in a statement. "We were heavily inspired by Kubrick as well as the 1970s documentary The Secret Life of Plants. Focusing on the lyric 'What did you think would happen / When you put me in unnatural space,' we wanted to explore the juxtaposition of natural and unnatural environments and what happens when they're forced to reckon with one another. The end result is a virtual reality psychedelic experiment gone awry — welcome to the odyssey."
