Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire

Lost in Translation

Sporting one of the more ridiculous names to grace the rap game in a while, Brooklyn, NY product Mr. Muthafuckin' Exquire had the Internet in a tizzy recently with the release of his mixtape, Lost in Translation. Full of underground and leftfield beats jacked from the likes of Def Jux head honcho El-P and stomach-churning MC/producer Necro ("Huzzah"), this young cat spits grimy, offensive rhymes filtered through a mouth full of marbles, but it somehow all comes together quite nicely. Big booties, drugs, drunk driving and typical street shit are the subject matter, so don't expect anything too stimulating. Just put on your headphones or turn your car stereo up and hear Mr. Muthafuckin' Exquire reinvent Cannibal Ox's classic "Vein" as a blunted-out snack rap on "Chicken Spot Rock" ("I hit the liquor spot/Then the chicken spot/Three pieces/French fries/I hope my shit's still hot"). Whether or not this dude has staying power in the ever fickle and continually burgeoning hipster rap scene remains to be seen, but this release is a nice, nauseating treat.
