Published Jul 31, 2012John Darnielle's latest Mountain Goats album Transcendental Youth apparently hones in on themes of religion, and unsurprisingly, the prolific indie folk artist will bring the tunes out on the road to his faithful devotees shortly after the album drops this October.
Following a couple of shows in September, Mountain Goats will take off for a 14-date trip around North America. The lone Canadian stop takes place October 20 at Toronto's Phoenix Concert Theatre. You can check out the rest of the itinerary down below.
Opening up for Mountain Goats will be Matthew E. White, who arranged horns on Transcendental Youth. On top of performing with his own nine-piece band, White and his horn section will help replicate those new Mountain Goats tunes with Darnielle and co.
"One of my fondest memories of the Transcendental Youth recording sessions is listening in the control room as Matthew and his players brought his horn arrangements to life on the other side of the glass," Darnielle said in a statement. "Me and [bandmates] Peter [Hughes] and Jon [Wurster] just sat there with our jaws on the floor. We can't wait to hear it come together live."
As previously reported, Transcendental Youth arrives October 2 through Merge.
