Mother Mother Enter Their 'Grief Chapter' on New Album, Share Single "The Matrix"

Recent releases "Normalize" and "To My Heart" are on the LP

Mother Mother continue to enjoy their recent renaissance with a new album. Grief Chapter is out February 16 through Warner Music, and the single "The Matrix" is out now.

The album deals with heavy themes of death and mourning. Frontman Ryan Guldemond said in a statement, "Death and grief rooted themselves in these songs, but not morosely. It's used more as a reference point for how to live more fully and presently. Life is fleeting, therefore it's precious, and death is the most effective way I know to frame this miracle of living."

That's certainly true of "The Matrix," which begins with the lines, "Baby love, baby child / You're gonna die." The heavy chorus has a seize-the-day perspective, with its declaration, "Fuck no to living in the matrix." The single is out now, and a video premieres today at noon ET.

The album includes recent singles "Normalize" and "To My Heart." Scroll past "The Matrix" to see the 12-song tracklist. There's a song called "God's Plan," which presumably isn't a Drake cover.

Mother Mother have scheduled a European tour for early 2024. They don't have any Canadian dates at the moment.
