Morrissey/Elvis Costello Producer Clive Langer to Release New EP on Domino with the Clang Group

Clive Langer has occasionally been involved in bands and film scores, but the Brit is most widely known as a record producer, having worked with the likes of Morrissey, Elvis Costello, Madness and many more. Now, however, he's started a new band and has a new EP on the way. The Clang Group will release a self-titled collection on February 16 through Domino.

The Clang Group take their moniker from Langer's nickname, since he has sometimes produced under the name Clanger. This band features Roxy Music saxophonist/oboe player Andy Mackay, along with drummer Gregg Braden, keyboardist John Wood, and bassist Malcolm Lunan. Langer handles guitar and vocals.

A press release simply calls this project a "rock and roll band." For a taste of this, scroll past The Clang Group EP's tracklist to hear the crunchily bouncing "Rhoda." Note that the EP includes a new version of "Shipbuilding," which Langer co-wrote with Elvis Costello and was originally performed by Robert Wyatt in 1982. Costello has also released a version of the song.

The EP can be pre-ordered here.
