While the Cliks just announced a new album, the band's former drummer, Morgan Doctor, is also keeping busy. She's preparing to release her latest solo album, Major over Minor, on May 7 via Aporia Records/Outside Distribution.
This is the Toronto-based drummer's third solo album, but unlike her past efforts, this one is entirely instrumental. It came together after years of reflection sparked by her departure from the Cliks and the end of a relationship, and a press release notes, "The ambient electronic album is about that time, full of contemplation and hopefulness. It's about the ending of a great love and the beginning of new relationships, new friends, new loves, a new home and even a new dog!"
The eight-song tracklist is below and the artwork is above. The album's melodies were creating using a "LED light sound pad with patterns of light being repeated and triggering tones."
While Doctor has yet to release a proper single from the album, she has unveiled a pair of remixes. Paradise Animals' version of "Phosphorescent" builds from twinkly arpeggios to incorporate clattering live drums, while Eccodek's take on "The Seafarer" is slow-moving and atmospheric. Both of those tracks are below. Expect a remix from Tokyo Police Club's Graham Wright to emerge soon.
Doctor plans to tour this summer an fall. Most of the dates are still forthcoming, but she's got a few scheduled shows in the coming weeks. Some of these involve performing David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust in full for Classic Albums Live. Scroll past the tracklist to see the current itinerary.
