Okay, things might be getting a bit ridiculous. With Disney refusing to reveal any pertinent details surrounding the forthcoming soundtrack to Tron: Legacy, fans are getting frothy at the mouth for new music by Daft Punk, so much so, it seems, that they may be willing to believe that anything is a "leak" of new material - even a potentially (and probably) bogus ten-minute video on YouTube that allegedly features snippets from the film's soundtrack.
As you may recall, a legit six-song sampler of the film's score was released last Friday (July 23), feeding fans' rabid needs for just a taste of what Daft Punk had in store. But this new leak, which supposedly knows which scene each snippet is from (and the scenes are numbered!), is a little fishy to us.
Besides not exactly fitting in with the score's sound, the songs also sound just a little too low quality, and a little too safe to be authentic Daft Punk. Not to mention it's not the "new direction for them" or the "combination of orchestral, electronic and granulate sound" that Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski promised. Nor does it "blur the line between sound design and music."
The skepticism is Net-wide, with one YouTube user commenting: "Now, if it IS real, then I'm digging it! But I'm personally having trouble with seeing how this is going to blend with the confirmed released tracks. I don't know, but I do love the tracks, regardless of their origin. If it's a series of fakes, well... The tracks still rock and sound like DP."
The call, for now, is yours. The Pretty Much Amazing blog has pointed to the YouTube video below where you can check out the tracks. The blog also says that the Tron: Legacy soundtrack is due November 26 and is separate from the score album. But once again, we're having a hard time believing that as well.
UPDATE: Surprise, surprise, Disney has confirmed that this new batch of songs is indeed fake. For a taste of the real deal, have a listen in the SoundCloud player below the YouTube clip.
