Published May 20, 2010The eighth edition of Piknic Electronik is set to launch this Sunday (May 23), and it looks as if electronic music fans better keep their weekends free until October 3, because the Montreal-based event has roped in one fine set of acts to play the city each Sunday.
Pépé Bradock, Krafty Kuts, Elite Force, Toddla T, San Proper and Riva Starr will all be making their Montreal debut, while Round Table Knights and Minilogue are playing in Canada for the first time at this year's Piknic. The fest is also bringing in, among others, Paul Kalkbrenner and Popof, Secretsundaze, Kevin Yost, Misstress Barbara, Josh Wink, Green Velvet and Nôze.
This year will also find Piknic branching out into dubstep and bass music with Mary-Anne Hobbs, Bassnectar, and Dirtyphonics. All told, there will be 105 acts performing at this year's event.
New this year is a family space (inflatable games and mini-golf), and returning is the Piknic Electronik pass for $65, which offers a discount of over 70 percent. The pass is only available at Ticketpro.com until May 28.
Piknic will also converge with other events this summer, such as the Osheaga Festival (July 31 and August 1), MUTEK (June 5 and 6), and the Fringe Fest (June 12). The big Piknic grand finale will actually go down at Pop Montreal on October 3.
