As we recently reported, Montreal's MUTEK Festival has now been successfully showcasing electronic artists from Canada and abroad for more than ten years. This year, to kick off its second decade, festival organizers announced that MUTEK will present its first-ever free outdoor concert "under the open night sky and right in the heart of downtown Montreal."

On June 5, Montreal's Place des Festivals in the Quartier des Spectacles will host Señor Coconut and his Orchestra (one of German producer Uwe Schmidt's many aliases) in an exclusive North American performance. The ever-prolific Schmidt has releases dozens of albums under more than 50 names over the years.

His performance as part of the festival will be supported by Le Golden, a new collaborative project that comprises Jean-Phi Goncalves (percussionist with Beast and Plaster), Alex McMahon (Plaster), J-F Lemieux and Martin Lizotte.

The festivities begin at 9 p.m.

The entire line-up for this year's festival can be viewed here. Tickets are on sale now, but you could save yourself some money by entering to win two passes to MUTEK plus two Via Rail passes from the Exclaim! contest here.
