Published Oct 15, 2010It's a given that people pay more attention to Tel Aviv rockers Monotonix's raucous stage show than their recorded music. As awesomely energized as their guitar-fuzz garage rock can be, it's pretty easy to be distracted from the tunes when frontman Ami Shalev is either hurling drum hardware into the crowd or rubbing his hairy ass cheeks in your face. Even if you're more transfixed by the hirsute combo's antics than their axe licks, the trio understandably need to keep things fresh for themselves. Enter Not Yet, the Israeli outfit's second full-length album.
While Monotonix have been cruising the world non-stop, reportedly playing over 800 shows over the last four years, the troupe managed to squirrel away some studio time with Steve Albini a few months back to record their sophomore set. While a full tracklisting has yet to pop up, a press release from the group explains that Not Yet will be "loosed upon the world" January 25, courtesy of Drag City.
In what's sure to be full of the same kind of sweaty, '70s-indebted riff rock that has scored several years of onstage mayhem, Not Yet will be a good enough substitute for those nights you don't have a half-naked, mustachioed mad man crowd surfing towards you.
The band are, as always, currently on the road. Check them out if you can.
