Monogrenade

'Composite' (album stream)

BY Matthew RitchiePublished Jan 27, 2014

Celestially tinged rock act Monogrenade gave fans a look towards the future last December when they shared a cryptic trailer for their upcoming LP, Composite, followed by details on its impending release date. The album won't see the light of day until the tail end of the next new moon (February 4, to be exact), but until that time comes, tide yourself over by streaming the 10-track record — which is premiering in full on Exclaim.ca — ahead of its drop on Bonsound early next month.

Exploding like an audio supernova, the Francophone indie pop ensemble's newest disc utilizes vintage synthesizers that coast through planetary atmospheres (album opener "Portal") before crashing down in a dense haze of galactic grooves ("Cercles et pentagones") and faux-futuristic funk (electro-pop tune "Métropolis," which is inspired by the German sci-fi film of the same name).

Listen to Monogrenade's seriously space-y sophomore effort by streaming it in full in the player below.

You can also catch the band as they play a select number of dates around Quebec, including a hometown gig at La Tulipe on February 5.

Tour dates:

02/05 Montreal, QC - La Tulipe
03/01 Quebec City, QC - Le Cercle
04/12 Hull, QC - Petit Chicago

UPDATE: This stream was available for one week only and is no longer available.
