Modest Mouse Prep No One's First and You're Next EP, Bring on Grandaddy Guitarist Jim Fairchild

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jul 23, 2009

Continuing their victory lap after a successful switch from indie to mainstream, Pacific Northwest vets Modest Mouse have been pretty busy lately. From announcing a Canadian-heavy tour to releasing a slew of seven-inches, the band have kept occupied without putting out a proper follow-up to 2007's We Were Dead Before This Ship Even Sank. Now, that follow-up comes in the form of the seven-inch singles collection No One's First and You're Next.

Compiling all of the songs from the band's recently released and limited non-album singles on one eight-song collection, the set also includes the pretty killer "Float On" B-side "I've Got It All (Most)" and rarity "King Rat," of which Heath Ledger once shot a video for.

No One's First and You're Next is due on CD on August 4, and will be available on vinyl on August 18 courtesy of Epic Records.

In some related and somewhat juicy news, Granddaddy's Jim Fairchild has joined the Modest Mouse ranks as the band's touring guitarist. Apparently, he isn't officially replacing the band's very own Smith, Johnny Marr, but he has started writing new tracks with the band. Make of this what you will.

No One's First and You're Next:

1. "Satellite Skin"
2. "Guilty Cocker Spaniels"
3. "Autumn Beds"
4. "The Whale Song"
5. "Perpetual Motion Machine"
6. "History Sticks to Your Feet"
7. "King Rat"
8. "I've Got It All (Most)"
