Modena Vox Transportation

Modena Vox Transportation
It seems kind of ironic that at a time when so many British bands from the ’90s are getting back together to take advantage of the misplaced nostalgia for "Britpop,” a band like Modena Vox, who are trying their utmost to sound like one of those bands, come along. This is the Columbia band’s second album and it isn’t too tough to work out whom the band grew up listening to. Transportation has some of the same swagger as early Oasis and there are also little hints of some of the other bands from that era but thankfully, they stop short of faking a British accent. But ultimately, the dated, generic sound doesn’t do them any favours. None of the songs are particularly memorable and Modena Vox look destined to become Ohio’s answer to Shed Seven. (Independent)
