Now, the Scion Sessions has shed some light on the history of the mixtape with a multi-part documentary.
The first part of Mixtape: An Unauthorized Biography takes the history of the mixtape right back to its origin: cassette compilations recorded off the radio. Directed by David Mewa, it features a variety of industry insiders talking about the early history of mixtapes, how they rose to prominence and why they are important.
