Published Aug 31, 2010This fall, Toronto, ON's X Avant New Musical Festival will return for its fifth annual instalment. The event, which will run from October 16 to 24, will tackle the weighty theme "What Is Real?" It will attempt to answer this question with a series of shows, including a performance by legendary Boston post-punks Mission of Burma.
Other notable shows include These Are Powers, as well as the world premier of Halo⢠Ballet, a modern dance production set in the Halo videogame environment. There's also a live A/V set by influential techno DJ Jeff Mills, and a condensed version of Wagner's 15-hour Der Ring des Nibelungen by Myra Davies (who has cut the epic opera cycle down to just 50 minutes). Another show will see French singer Donatienne Michel-Dansac perform Georges Aperghis's Récitations.
The festival is curated by Gregory Oh (of Toronto experimental trio Toca Loca). All of the performances will take place at either the Music Gallery, Polish Combatants Hall or the Garrison.
Full festival passes cost $75 and are available at TicketWeb. To see the night-by-night schedule, go to the Music Gallery.
