Miracle Fortress

Miracle Fortress, the solo electronic project of Graham Van Pelt (also of Think About Life), headlined the Passovah showcase at Mission Santa Cruz. Playing songs mostly from his 2011 Polaris Music Prize long-listed album Was I the Wave?, Van Pelt performed in almost total darkness with only occasional bursts of various light effects and camera flashes, but his onstage energy still managed to inspire the whole front half of the room to dance. Refreshingly, despite being a solo project, Miracle Fortress played with a live drummer instead of opting for synthetic drum loops, making for one of the more dynamic live electronic performances of the fest.
