Minor Threat Announce 'Out of Step Outtakes' EP

BY Nika Petrosian Published Nov 16, 2023

D.C.'s hardcore punk veterans Minor Threat have announced the Out of Step Outtakes EP, arriving on December 1 via Dischord.

The three-track EP arrives 40 years after Minor Threat's landmark 1983 12-inch, Out of Step — the group's first and final studio album, released just months before their separation. The three unreleased tracks featured on the forthcoming project were recorded during the original Out of Step sessions.

According to the EP's description, the three tracks were culled from sessions at Inner Ear Studio in '83, where the band experimented with and explored their new sound, in addition to re-recording their 1981 tracks "In My Eyes" and "Filler," with two guitars. They also ended up producing the instrumental number "Addams Family," which ultimately became a coda to the vinyl-only hidden track "Cashing In."

The other two tracks, however, remained unmixed and untracked for over 35 years, almost forgotten, until they were rediscovered in 2021 when the album's original tapes were brought back to the studio to be digitized. Bandleader Ian MacKaye and producer Don Zientara got to mixing, thus producing Out of Step Outtakes.

The EP — available on 7-inch clear vinyl — is available for pre-order on vinyl through Dischord's website. See the tracklist below.
