Minikon

Minikon

Minikon is the project of Florida-based musician James White, a man so obsessed with Japan and its pop culture that he has written a tribute album to it. The debut release from the KiraKira Disc label, Minikon fuses happy balls of energy with playful IDM. The result is ten tracks you’d hear accompanying a video game starring Yoshi the dragon. The first few songs appear to be rather cute with some very interesting moments, but the further you delve into the album, the more it becomes that nightmare where you’re trapped in Donkey Kong with a giant ape hurling barrels at you. There’s a real appreciation for the childish nature of Minikon, but too much of it will do to your ears what five continuous hours of PS2 will do to your thumbs.
