Millencolin Gather Up Rarities for 'The Melancholy Connection'

Long-running Scandinavian skate-punk combo Millencolin haven't issued an LP since 2008's Machine 15, but the Swedish band will be dusting off a bunch of B-sides for their upcoming The Melancholy Connection.

A press release from Epitaph explains that the group's upcoming compilation arrives May 29, and acts as the follow-up to the quartet's similarly minded The Melancholy Collection from 1999. The new compendium will contain 12 rarities that stretch back to their Pennybridge Pioneers era up to today.

"We've released a lot of songs since Pennybridge Pioneers that were not released on our previous albums, so we thought it was about time to put them all on one," guitarist Erik Ohlsson said in a statement.

The six-stringer also added that two brand new songs recently recorded in their home studio will be included on The Melancholy Connection. "We're really excited about the new stuff we recorded!" Ohlsson continued. "We're taking it back to our roots and mixing it with the new sound we've developed over the last years."

The band apparently recorded "a bunch of new songs," but it's as yet unclear if a proper full-length is on the way.

On top of the tunes, The Melancholy Connection also comes with a DVD featuring footage of Millencolin from throughout their career, including studio sessions and live shows.

"We had a lot of footage archived from the Pennybridge Pioneers recording that we shot ourselves," Ohlsson added. "No one has ever seen any of that footage, and since we have new live footage from the 10th anniversary tour of the album, now would be a perfect opportunity to make something out of it."
