Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson

"The Sound"

BY Ian GormelyPublished Sep 28, 2009

Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, MBAR to the acronym inclined, burst out of Brooklyn and into the indie-rock conscience last year when his self-titled debut album got a proper release. Produced by Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor and Chris Bear, the album presented a lo-fi bedroom artist with Phil Spector pop ambitions.

Recorded with TV on the Radio's Kyp Malone before his debut was even released, Summer of Fear, out on Saddle Creek October 20, promises to be an overwhelming affair, having been written during a rather tumultuous summer for Robinson two years ago.

With a keyboard riff and plaintive vocals driving the tune while crashing guitars and wailing solos fly overhead, lead track "The Sound" feels like the denouement to the kind of heady teen-dramedies that John Hughes and Cameron Crowe used to do so well. It evokes that moment where even though life might not have worked out as planned, you know that everything is going to work out fine.
