Mikey

The Exclaim! Questionnaire

BY None NonePublished Nov 17, 2016

Mikey plays guitar in Orlando, Florida band the Spitvalves. Their new album, Fine Print at the Bottom, is out on Resurrection A.D.

Current fixations:

Foosball. It's a fucking religion to this band!

Mind altering work of art:

Any book by Edward Gorey. His work grabs me and scares me. It's great stuff.

Most memorable or inspirational gig and why?

I'll never forget one of the first shows I played with this band. I remember when I hit the last note of the last song and when everything went quiet, I got chills all over my body. After that, I knew there was nothing else I wanted to do.

What has been your career high and low?

Low: When most of us were graduating high school and soon after the band broke up. It was shitty not being able to play music with my best friends anymore.

High: It's definitely been these past few months. With our signing to Resurrection A.D. and this upcoming tour to Europe, it seems like things are getting better and better.

What should everyone shut up about?

Napster.

I would drop everything to play a benefit for:

Anyone close to me who needed it.

What trait do you like and dislike most about yourself?

Dislike: Me being so clumsy and my drooling problem.

Like: Sometimes the drooling thing is fun.

What would make you kick someone out of you band and/or bed, and have you?

I had to kick someone out of my bed for asking me "What is this crap!?" when I put in a Billie Holiday CD. Fuck that!!

When I think of Canada I think:

Love making and the eight hours of "Kids in the Hall" we watched on our last tour.

What is your vital daily ritual?

First thing in the morning I gotta have my cereal with no milk and a big glass of O.J.

How do you spoil yourself?

Sometimes I'll let myself have a second helping of cereal in the morning. Only if I deserve it.

What was you most memorable day job?

I had this factory job and there was a lot of work with heavy machinery. That's all fine and good, but none of the machines ever worked. I always had to lean over some big piece of equipment and push some gear, put my finger in something, kick something or dodge shit.

If I wasn't playing music I would be:

Photographer for "National Geographic."

What is your greatest fear?

Regret.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

It's a toss up between flying or being able to read minds.

What makes you want to take it off and get it on?

James Brown really loud through the speakers.

Music and sex: Is there a difference? Why?

Nope.

Strangest brush with celebrity:

When I was a baby I crawled right up to Walter Matthau in the L.A. Airport.

Who would be your ideal dinner guest, living or dead, and what would you serve them?

Carey Grant. A juicy steak and a good dark beer.

What does your mom wish you were doing instead?

College, college, college.
