Mika Vainio Resurrects Pan Sonic for New Album, Collaborates with Stephen O'Malley

Legendary electronic music veteran Mika Vainio has had a busy year so far, collaborating with numerous performers and releasing his solo album Kilo. He's not done yet, however, with two more collaborations due before the year's end.

Perhaps most exciting is the news that Vainio has resurrected Pan Sonic, his esteemed project with Ilpo Väisänen. The pair have completed a new album called Okstastus, which marks their first full-length since 2010's Gravitoni.

Not much else is known about Okstastus, but it will be released shortly as a double LP via Kvitnu.

In addition to that collaboration, Vainio has also joined forces with Sunn O))) mastermind Stephen O'Malley to form the project ÄÄNIPÄÄ. The duo have recorded a full album called Through a Pre-Memory, which will see its release via Editions Mego on November 11.

A label write-up suggests this one will be a real head-melter, including the all-caps statement, "MAXIMUM VOLUME YIELDS MAXIMUM RESULTS."

Check out the tracklisting for Through a Pre-Memory below, where you can also sample a bit of the record. That's the album cover above.

Through a Pre-Memory:

1. Muse
2. Toward All Thresholds
3. Mirror Of Mirror Dreams
4. Watch Over Stillness / Matters Principle
