Mike Krol Signs to Merge for 'Turkey'

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 24, 2015

Mike Krol is a moving up in the world. After a couple of releases on Counter Counter Culture, the Los Angeles-based garage pop dude has now signed with high-profile indie institution Merge Records for his latest album. Turkey is due out on August 28.

The album is named after the bowling term signifying three consecutive strikes. This is Krol's third record — following I Hate Jazz (2011) and Trust Fund (2013) — so evidently he considers this one to be another perfect bowl, metaphorically speaking.

The album was recorded in March of 2014 in a studio in Sacramento, CA. A press release describes the approach like this: "Plug the vocal mic into a guitar amp. Plug the guitar into an overheating box of vacuum tubes. Put the computer in the closet. Roll the tape."

That's the cop-themed artwork above. Below, check out a short trailer featuring a snippet of fuzzed out scuzz-pop from the album. If you're suitably excited, CDs or LPs can be pre-ordered now.

Tour dates:

09/14 Seattle, WA - Tractor Tavern
09/15 Portland, OR - Doug Fir Lounge
09/17 San Francisco, CA - Rickshaw Stop
09/18 Los Angeles, CA - The Echo
