Mike Kinsella Reveals Debut EP from Their/They're/There, Preps New Owen EP for Record Store Day

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Mar 22, 2013

Prolific Chicago indie rocker Mike Kinsella has participated in a number of celebrated projects since the '90s, from Cap'n Jazz, American Football and Joan of Arc to his solo venture Owen, and now the multi-instrumentalist has announced yet another project to add to his acclaim: Their/They're/There. Kinsella's new three-piece issue their self-titled debut EP on Record Store Day (April 20) through Polyvinyl.

A press release notes that the band also features Into it. Over It.'s Evan Weiss, and Loose Lips Sink Ships' Matthew Frank, and together the trio merge "classic post-punk Chicago beats" with undoubtedly some beautiful guitar work. The six-song set was recorded in the Windy City with Mark Michalik (Into It. Over It., the Swellers).

You can stream Their/They're/There's "Concession Speech Writer" now over at Rolling Stone.

"This is the first song we ever wrote as a group," bassist Weiss said of the song. "Oddly enough, it seems to be the most indicative of our styles and attitude as a band."

In some other Kinsella news, Owen will release The Seaside EP as part of Record Store Day as well. The songs were previously only available as Japanese bonus tracks and one was previously only on a 7-inch. The LP is limited to 700 copies on blue vinyl, and Polyvinyl will also put out the record.
