Midge Ure Details 'Fragile,' Books North American Summer Tour

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 23, 2014

Over the past four decades, Midge Ure has bounced back and forth between his solo career and projects like Ultravox, Thin Lizzy and Band Aid. Following Ultravox's 2012 album Brilliant, he's now going it alone again, and on August 18 will release Fragile through eOne Music.

The album was mostly recorded in Ure's own studio in Bath, UK. The songwriting handled nearly all of the production, engineering and performance himself, making this a "solo album" in the truest sense of the term.

Its 10 songs are said to draw influences from throughout Ure's career, ranging from proggy rock to synth-based electronic material. "Dark, Dark Night" is a collaboration with Moby.

"Fragile is quite possibly the most intimate and honest album I have ever released," Ure said in a statement. "Its the kind of work you can only do after a lifetime making music."

At the bottom of this page, watch a very DIY-looking video for the peppy synth-pop cut "Become."

Ure will be coming to North America in August and September for his "Retro Futura Tour," which will touch down in Toronto on August 26. Interestingly, this tour will focus on past favourites rather than new material, but Ure will later take Fragile on an acoustic tour, the details of which have yet to be announced.
